Are Mosquitoes Attracted to Light?
Mosquitoes are most active at times of low sunlight: dawn and dusk. In the daytime, mosquitoes like to hide away in shadier areas. When they head back out at dawn and dusk, mosquitoes use light to locate their hosts. Although they use light to get around, mosquitoes do not see light the same way we do.
Mosquitoes also navigate by orienting themselves with natural light from the moon and stars. This means that artificial lights can be a natural deterrent to mosquitoes, throwing them off of their desired course.
Do Mosquitoes Like Ultraviolet or LED Lights?
Lots of insect traps sold in stores use a light source that is meant to draw insects in. However, they do not work for mosquitoes. Mosquitoes are not drawn toward ultraviolet or LED light any more than they are to other light sources. LEDs actually put off less warmth than other bulbs, making them even less attractive to mosquitoes.

Do Certain Colors Attract Mosquitoes?
It is proven that you can wear brightly colored clothing to repel mosquitoes. Wearing darker clothes will make it easier for insects to find you by trapping in your body heat, resulting in more natural scent output. Wearing white or khaki clothing can help to keep mosquitoes away. Lighter colors reflect sunlight, keeping you cooler and allowing for a minimized body heat output.
How to Repel Mosquitoes Using Light
While light works to repel some types of mosquitoes, lights have a neutral effect on mosquitoes in general. Mosquitoes just use light sources to get around. Therefore, using bug lights or light bulbs that you’ve purchased at the store may not actually work to solve your mosquito problem. Always talk to a professional pest control expert to determine the best method of mosquito-proofing your property in Vermont.
